Under The Radar & Radio 1 Presents:
___Lawrence Arabia___ "The Sparrow" Album Release Tour
James Milne A.K.A Lawrence Arabia will return in July with a new full length album, The Sparrow, and will celebrate its release with a four date nationwide tour.
Following the success and critical acclaim of his Taite Music Prize-winning Chant Darling, Milne will be playing the Town Hall in Auckland and the Opera House in Wellington, as well as a show each in both Christchurch and Dunedin.
The Sparrow is Lawrence Arabia's third solo album, the evocative follow up to the Taite Music Prize/Silver Scroll winning Chant Darling. Venturing away from the harmony-laden, classic pop production of Chant Darling, The Sparrow is a more measured and minimalist work, drawing particularly on the influence of the symphonic late-sixties work of Scott Walker and Serge Gainsbourg.
The material for the album was accumulated throughout a 2010 tour. Images like the "crude moustache, exposed brains" seen on a poster of Zac Efron in the New York subway, the jaded conversation with a Tom Tom on a rainy British motorway and "the last breaths" of a London house party that dragged on a little too long were all collected – just waiting for songs to attach themselves to.
These diary entries (and more) act as muse for Lawrence Arabia’s enigmatic third album. Playing live in one of the country's finest halls, the celebration of pop-noir will be accompanied by strings and horns.
This Dunedin concert features as part of Lawrence Arabia’s nationwide tour.
